one word~blinds

i sit and look out of our pristine windows, neatly topped with the precisely drawn thick venetian blinds he insisted upon. they can't be any higher or lower than the mid point of the window, thus rendering the upper portion of the scenes outside hidden from our viewing... and the lower portion open and vulnerable.

i look at the heavy hanging cord now neatly wrapped around his neck, his red face with it's bulging eyes.. looking so startled as he discovered death was waiting for him...and i think i may want to change those window coverings before the spring.

  1. Are you going to leave him up there for the traditional 12 days? Better turn off the air-con... ;)

  2. This one’s clever, Q. I love the transition. I’m busy with the blinds, picturing the configuration and *BAM* there’s the fussy mo-fo himself, dangling and bulging in front of my eyes. Choice :-D

  3. I find when I hang people from the cords of my venetian blinds, they aren't left so neat and precise. And so I see you subconciously straightening them up...

  4. Isn't the vulnerable bottom view now caged between his dangling legs?

Of course when I read this, i thought, hmm, not him, but probably a her is metaphorically dangling from that cord.

Creepy fun, and i loved the matter of fact last line.

  6. I like how the narrator is just sitting there, Quin, looking and thinking....

  7. My wife loathes venetian blinds. Glad I never insisted on them! That was a startling realization hanging there from the cord. I bet he wished he didn't insist on such high quality blinds either...

  8. I think of her as either in shock from the man’s dangling death or her new found freedom from his stern grip. Wonderful read.
